Our Unique Approach to Early Learning
At Little Preschool on the Prairie, we believe in nurturing the whole child by lovingly supporting each child and celebrating them for their unique selves. We emphasize creating opportunities for discovery, independence, joyful exploration of the outdoors, creating community, instilling confidence as well as a love of self and love for learning .

Empowering Children to Pave Their Own Paths
At Little Preschool on the Prairie, we believe children are masters of creating their own meaningful learning when given the space and tools to do so. Our role is to guide when needed, but primarily to foster an environment where children can pave their own paths. We encourage taking "safe risks," by encouraging children to climb, roll, jump, swing, spin, build, etc which helps them understand how their bodies exist in space. It also supports their understanding of how their bodies work which makes them more capable and is also a foundational piece for formal schooling later. We are dedicated to nurturing their confidence, building it step-by-step so they can achieve things independently. You may be surprised to hear we do not emphasize academic subjects in the traditional sense. You won't see us doing flashcard drills or reading groups. Instead, we focus on preserving childhood because we know its a sacred time for developing sense of self, building confidence, and finding joy in the every day. Your child will still be ready for Kindergarten. We will set a strong foundation for formal schooling by developing core strength for sitting, fine motor skills for holding writing utensils, attention span for being present in activities/learning, and social skills for working with peers and adults, etc. Most of all we hope to instill or cultivate a love for learning. Childhood is not a race, it's a journey, and we celebrate that, recognizing children's diverse skills beyond letters and numbers.

The Power of Play
We deeply value outdoor time, self-help skills, and learning through play because these elements provide children with the tools they need to be successful in life. Outdoor play cultivates a love of nature, resilience to varying conditions, and an appreciation for navigating boredom creatively. Fresh air is vital for immune systems and overall well-being. Self-help skills empower children to gain confidence, internalizing the feeling of "I can do it!" This confidence generalizes across their lives, reducing their reliance on others for tasks. For preschoolers this looks like opening food packages, using the bathroom, getting dressed, and being willing to try new things. Learning through play is proven to be the most effective way for children to learn, allowing them to construct true meaning from their surroundings. They gravitate towards their interests, and a skilled educator can help them gain new insights through these explorations. There's nothing quite like seeing a child succeed; to be there when they feel success and confidence and willingness to try is truly joyful!

Nurturing Unique, Confident, and Lifelong Learners
When a child leaves Little Preschool on the Prairie, our deepest hope is that they have stayed true to themselves. Each child is unique and wonderful, and we aim to preserve that individuality. We hope they have gained confidence in their own skills. We wish for them to develop an appreciation for nature and an ability to be content with unstructured time. Ultimately, we hope they remain silly and fun-loving, possess a strong sense of self, and continue to be life-long learners who embrace every new experience with curiosity and joy.
